Samsung to bring SmartThings app to its Gear smartwatches

Samsung has announced that they are bringing the SmartThings app to t Gear S3 and Gear Sport smartwatches. Whilst lots of people were expecting the Samsung Gear S4 to be announced at CES 2018, this is still an interesting update to the current line up of Smartwatches and will help Samsung to create a similar ecosystem to continue to compete with Apples HomeKit product.

Samsung Gear Sport S3 with SmartThings App

SmartThings app on your wrist

When the SmartThings App arrives, you will be able to control other connected smart devices such as your lights and thermostats, from your wrist.Samsung didn’t give any details on when its watches will get the app, but I suspect it will arrive around March or April time and this may coincide with a Gear S4 release.

Smart home alternatives drive innovation

It is great to see Samsung making this effort to give users a seamless experience and I for one would like to see a better offering from Samsung with regards the SmartThings product line to compete with the likes of Apple with HomeKit and Google with Google Assistant and Google Home.

SmartThings App Smart homeI am currently a user of Apples HomeKit services and I have smart home products like Philips Hue, plugs and other smart home devices connected. I have recently started using Google Home and Google Assistant as part of an article on wellbeing and fitness through smart home products and I am really impressed with how well the Google offering works. So for Samsung to bring the SmartThings App to the Gear S3 and the Gear Sport, it will only drive alternative options for Smart home products for consumers and in the end, benefit us through these smart home companies innovating.
