Suunto 9 comes with outstanding battery life for your outdoor adventures with Suunto intelligent battery technology
Suunto has today announced a new multisport GPS watch with outstanding battery called the Suunto 9. The Suunto 9 is promoted as a multisport watch offers between 25 hours battery and up to an impressive 120 Hours, all with GPS enabled!
Only last week Suunto teased a new watch coming soon and Active JR covered this to say Suunto would be releasing a new GPS enabled fitness watch soon and here it is, the Suunto 9.
Suunto 9 design
The Suunto 9 comes in 2 two colours, black and white and feature a premium construction case as I have found with all the Suunto range. The GPS sports watch features stainless steel bezel and buttons, along with a sapphire crystal glass as standard. The bands are made of durable silicone strap.
Suunto 9 is feature packed
The Suunto 9 features over 80 sport modes and features an optical wrist heart rate measurement from Valencell Inc as featured in previous Suunto devices.
The watch comes with full GPS route navigation, sunrise/sunset times, storm alarm and many other great features for athletes and outdoor adventurers.
Intelligent battery technology with smart reminders
The most impressive feature of the Suunto 9 is the battery life of up to 120 hours with GPS mode enabled.
The GPS enabled sports watch features three predefined battery modes – Performance, Endurance and Ultra – deliver from 25 hours to up to 120 hours of recording time with GPS tracking on. You can also create different modes to adjust to your needs.

One of the big features that I think will make it stand out from the other GPS fitness watches is the ability to see an estimate of how much battery life you have left with the current mode. Then if it’s not enough, you can switch to one of the other modes to boost the battery life on the Suunto 9.
In addition to the battery mode feature, Suunto 9 uses smart reminders to help you ensure you have enough battery for your next workout.
This reminders feature is split into two parts, the first uses preemptive information based on, for example, your activity history to make sure you are fully charged for the next outing. The 2nd is if the Suunto 9 notices you are running low on battery during an exercise, it will automatically suggest changing to a different battery mode. I am certainly looking forward to seeing how this works in reality and will certainly dig deep into this in the Suunto 9 review.
Ultramarathon ready Suunto 9
It looks like Suunto has really thought about the ultra runner when developing and designing the Suunto 9 and this is not only evident with the impressive battery life but also Suunto’s unique FusedTrack™ algorithm combines GPS and motion sensor data to improve track and distance accuracy. This allows you to extend battery life by lowering GPS power without significantly compromising accuracy.

Suunto has also made the new sports watch compatible with the new Suunto app and this is where you can track of all your recorded activities, sleep and achievements. In addition to this, you also get call, text and email alerts right on your wrist.
