IKEA Tradfri smart plugs to get HomeKit update in February

IKEA Control Outlet HomeKit update

IKEA launched the low priced TradFri Outlet smart plugs back in November 2018, but part way through launch the company had to pull HomeKit support due to technical issues.

UPDATE: The Tradfri team has confirmed that update was not correct and its still work in progress.

However, based on a recent Tweet by IKEA UK Support it appears Support for HomeKit is coming to the IKEA smart plugs after the 11th February 2019.IKEA Smart plugs HomeKit update

When the IKEA smart plugs where first announced, the 2 things that stood out was the low price and the fact they would support HomeKit. Normal trend is that Smart home devices that support HomeKit come at a premium.

Tradfri smart home system already includes bulbs that support HomeKit and now the smart outlets will soon support HomeKit via a software update.

  1. Can’t wait for the update, having said that, I’ve bought a few echo dot 3rd editions to handle all the commands, they control lights , plugs etc no problem, (one for each room, a lot cheaper than homepods) I still love my 2 paired homepods 👍👀😁
