The upcoming update to the Trådfri Control Outlet which would have allowed for HomeKit integration of their recently released Trådfri Smart plug has been delayed for an unspecified reason.
Ikea has only just recently released the Trådfri Smart plug across Europe with users reporting that the new smart plugs won’t connect to HomeKit, this latest update will no doubt frustrate users.
The full press release about the delay to HomeKit support for Trådfri Smart plug is below, the biggest call out is that Ikea does not give a reason for the delay or a timeframe of when HomeKit support will arrive
Dear TRÅDFRI friends,
I regret to inform you that the update that was supposed to enable the TRÅDFRI Control Outlet to be controlled through Apple HomeKit has been postponed. We have discovered an error in the update that potentially could have had a negative impact on the user experience. We have therefore decided to postpone this update until we can ensure that it is of highest quality possible. It is our highest priority to get this right and release the update as soon as possible.
Going forward we want to create the most stable and reliable Home Smart system on the market. This is why we have decided to raise our demands on updates even further. We want to cater to all types of smart homes, big, small, technical advanced, and to those who are new to the world of Home Smart technology. This creates a lot of demands on the TRÅDFRI system, and we are ready to make sure we meet these demands.
Again: We sincerely apologize for the delay and hope that you understand our reasoning behind it. Your customer experience was the top priority in making this decision.
If you have any questions, please reply in this thread and I’ll try to answer them to the best of my ability.
Best regards, Oscar IKEA TRÅDFRI Team
So there you have it, HomeKit support for Trådfri Smart plug is delayed until further notice, this will of course delay the review I was planning to start this week. I will, of course, keep you posted on any further news on this story.
