How to install tvOS 13 beta on a Apple TV without a developer account

Just like with iOS 13 beta and macOS Catalina, Apple makes versions of tvOS 13 Beta available for developers to download and test with their apps. So, here’s what you need to do to get tvOS installed on an Apple TV the easy way.

In this article, I will show you how to install tvOS 13 beta onto an Apple TV  without a developer and with a developer account.

Before we get started, the tvOS 13 is a beta intended for developers. So, I just want to make it clear, you use this guide with no warranty. Using beta software can mess up your device and the following may happen

  • Loss of data
  • Random resets
  • Apps may not work or crash
  • The device may become bricked

In short, you are playing with a beta so don’t expect it to be without issues and bumps

How to install tvOS 13 on an Apple TV – What you need

  • You need a Mac running macOS Catalina (for the first method)
  • Xcode 11 (for the first method)
  • tvOS 13 beta configuration profile.

Install tvOS 13 on an Apple TV with a developer account

  1. Go to Apple Developer portal
  2. Download the tvOS 13 beta configuration profile.
  3. Make sure your Mac and Apple TV are on the same network and powered on
  4. Install the Apple Configurator app from the Mac App Store.
  5. Launch Xcode on your Mac
  6. Choose Window -> Devices and Simulators
  7. Choose Devices
  8. On the Apple TV, go to Settings -> Remotes and Devices -> Remote App and Devices
  9. Back in Xcode, your Apple TV should show up under Discovered
  10. Enter the verification code from your Apple TV
  11. Launch Apple Configurator on your Mac
  12. Click Add -> Profiles, and select the tvOS 13 beta configuration profile that you downloaded
  13. Update your Apple TV OTA as you normally would

Download and Install tvOS 13 on an Apple TV without a developer account

If you dont have a developer account, Then you can use this method to install tvOS 13 on your Apple TV.

  1. On the Apple TV, go to Settings → General → Privacy → Send to Apple. Now press the play button on your remote, select Add Profile and press OK.
  2. Back on your iOS device, launch the Remote-App and connect to your Apple TV. n the text field that pops up, type
  3. Your Apple TV now installs the profile. Your Apple TV will request a restart, if not restart it manually.
  4. After the restart, go to Settings → System → Software Update and install the update.
  5. That’s it you now have tvOS 13 running on your Apple TV
