It looks like we will see an updated Garmin Instinct 2 with Solar charging and PulseOX in 2020. Garmin already ships the Fenix 6 with the new Elevate HRM with PulseOX and the Fenix 6x Solar, so this is a natural step.
A Reddit user spotted new firmware on Garmin servers which indicates that a Garmin Instinct 2 is around the corner. According to another source, the Instinct 2 will also feature the new Sony GPS chip. If Garmin add this chip, then we should see a battery life boost from its existing 16 hours of GPS usage to 20 hours.
Garmin Instinct 2 Expected features
- Solar charging
- New Elevate HR sensor with PulseOX
- New Firstbeat features
- Sony GPS chip
- Increased Battery life to 20 hours
- Optical heart rate monitoring for swimming.
What is not clear at the moment is a firm release date or pricing. However with CES 2020 around the corner, we could see the Garmin Instinct 2 announced then. In terms of pricing it’s likely to be around £290/$300 given Garmin’s track record of bumping the price for newer devices.
