Garmin Forerunner 945  release date?

Garmin release leaks have been coming thick and fast over the last month. However, it is now finally time to reveal the Forerunner 945. Check. The Forerunner 945 comes with music, maps, Garmin Pay and advanced Firstbeat features.

  • What is it?: Its the Garmin Forerunner 945 Music, upgrade to the FR935
  • When is it out?: The Garmin Forerunner 945 is released today and shipping expected within the next couple of weeks.
  • What will it cost?: The Forerunner 945 Music starts at $599/£519 for the standard bundle and a whopping $749/£649 for the premium bundle that comes with HRM-Tri™ and HRM-Swim™
  • What features will it have?: The Forerunner 945 will only come in one variant which will feature music across the range like the Fenix 5 Plus series.

Garmin Forerunner 945 design

The Forerunner 945 sticks with the circle design as most of the other Garmin wearables range. It weighs  in at 47g, which is 2g lighter than the previous Forerunner 935

In terms of the screen, the Forerunner 945 will stick with a 240 x 240 screen. It will also stick with the non-touchscreen approach. The screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass DX.

As with the previous FR935, it is waterproof to 5ATM meaning you can take it swimming

Just like the Fenix 5 Plus series, the Forerunner 945 will feature Garmin’s Quick Release bands. Garmin will ship the FR945 in Coral and black.

  • Full-colour, onboard maps guide you on your run so you never get lost during your workout
  • Safety and tracking features include incident detection (during select activities) which sends your real-time location to emergency contacts through your paired compatible tracking and group track and for Android users you also get event tracking.
  • Live tracking, group track and for Android users you also get event tracking.
  • Battery life: up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode, 10 hours in GPS mode with music or up to 60 hours in UltraTrac™ mode. GPS mode without music is up to 36 hours

FirstBeat training load on the FR945

The Forerunner 945 will feature Load Focus appears to be the Firstbeat feature coming to the Forerunner 945. This Firstbeat feature separates your training load into different categories based on the intensity and structure of each activity recorded.

Forerunner 945 Pulse OX and wellness

Garmin has also included  there wrist-based Pulse Ox sensor in the Forerunner 945.  Which monitors blood oxygen saturation levels to support advanced sleep monitoring and altitude acclimation.

While you sleep. And to give you an idea of how you’re sleeping, Forerunner 945 tracks your light, deep and REM stages of sleep, along with movement throughout the night.

It also features all-day stress monitoring for wellness tracking during the day. If your stress level starts to climb, use the relaxation breathing timer for a few minutes of guided breathing.

The maps will allow you to zoom in and out and see where you are when out on a run. Like the other map-enabled Garmin wearables. The maps feature can be used for navigation, location tracking and creating round-trip courses.

Garmin Forerunner 945 battery life

In terms of battery life, nothing much has changed from the previous version. But that was to be expected given the extra features. Battery life is up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode, 10 hours in GPS mode with music or up to 60 hours in UltraTrac mode.

Running with Music

Music on the wrist first appeared in a Garmin wearable with the Forerunner 645 music back in 2018 and it been rolled out to other fitness wearables like the Fenix 5 Plus series. So naturally, music will feature on the Forerunner 945

Along with music support, the Forerunner will support music providers including Spotify with support for about 100 songs on the wrist.Garmin Forerunner 245 music

Like the other Garmin wearables with music support, we will not see any streaming on the wrist like you would with an Apple Watch.

Smart running watch

As with most of the Garmin fitness watch range, smart features mostly come second and its no different with the Forerunner 945.

The Forerunner 945 will feature smartwatch notifications that include call and text alerts, nothing much to write home about.

Garmin has included the safety and tracking feature, incident detection. Which sends your real-time location to emergency contacts through your paired compatible smartphone.

You also get all the usual stuff like live tracking and group track and for Android users you also get event tracking.

Garmin Pay

Unlike the FR245 which was also announced today, Garmin will include Garmin Pay on the Forerunner 945. Whilst some will see this has a welcome addition to the running watch, Garmin Pay is still progressing slowly with banks getting onboard.

One of the biggest surprises with the Forerunner 945 release, is the price. If you want to upgrade to the Forerunner 945, it will set you back $599/£519 and all the way up to $749/£619 for the premium bundle.
