Garmin Fenix 6 features

Garmin has gone to town this year, with some entirely new features that will come to a Garmin wearable for the first time. Along with some features taken from the Forerunner 945.

PacePro and heat and altitude acclimation status.

According to DC rainmaker, the PacePro feature will automatically calculates each split (miles or kilometers) based on the elevation profile of the course you’re doing. You then get individual split targets for each mile based.

It will also take into account Intensity of hills and then whether you positive or negative split the race/course.

Plus, the Garmin watch will feature Heat and Altitude Acclimation, Training Load Focus, Training Effect Labels and more like found on the Forerunner 945.

Garmin has also packed in Body Resources to the Fenix 6 Series. This feature gives you data so you know when to push hard and when to rest by using  stress, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep and activity data points.

New Sony GPS chipset

The Garmin Fenix 6 Series has got the new Sony GPS chipset that was shipped with the MARQ and the Forerunner 945. This chipset is still in its early days of use and still yet to be proven as accurate. However, one of the reporting benefits is improved battery life performance. So this may help with Garmin’s new battery life improvements.

A better battery on the Fenix 6

Garmin has included a significant battery upgrade along with a feature called Battery Management mode. This new feature will allow you to turn certain sensors and features off to save battery life.

Garmin has also upgraded the heart rate sensor to feature the latest ELEVATE heart rate module, which is featured in the Forerunner 945. Because of this upgrade, the entire Fenix 6 Series lineup will get Pulse OX.

Fenix 6 series opinion, should I upgrade

As with any new release of the Fenix line, people will debate if it’s worth the upgrade and it’s no different with the Fenix 6 series. You have got a lot to consider in terms of new model variations, features and the improved battery life.

However, my position has not changed on the upgrade advise since when the Fenix 5 Plus came out.

Upgrade Fenix 5 Plus to Fenix 6 Series

So, if you already have the Fenix 5 Plus and dont need the extra fitness features or small tweaks to the maps. You are happy with the battery life of your current device then stick with what you have.

Upgrade Fenix 5 to Fenix 6 Series

This one is a little different, but the principle is the same. Its all about features you need and or want. So if you were thinking about upgrading to the 5 Plus, but waited. Then time could be right with the Fenix 6. If you will use the music, maps (subject to the model you buy) and all the new Firstbeat stuff, then its the Fenix 6 is a great upgrade.
