Charge 3 leak ahead of released at the IFA 2018

More leaks have surfaced of the up and coming Fitbit Charge 3 via Andriod Authority which gives us more information on the new fitness tracker specs and what to expect when it is released later this year.

The most significant update to the Charge line is that the Charge 3 will likely have a complete touchscreen interface. Previous models had tap screens that allowed you to tap around the interface and it should work in the same way as the Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa.

According to the information received by Andriod Authority, the Charge 3 will be swim-proof and water resistant at up to 50 meters of depth, so expect to see swimming fitness tracking in the fitness band.

The Charge 3 will also come in 2 editions, with one being a  “Special Edition” of the Fitbit Charge 3 that features an NFC chip for making wireless payments via Fitbit Pay. This was the same with the Versa along with different special edition bands.

Whilst these details are still unconfirmed, it looks like there is no built-in GPS, even in the Special Edition. In order to use GPS functions, you’ll have to have your smartphone with you and tethered to the Charge 3. This is very disappointing if it is the case, but I suspect Fitbit has done this to keep the battery life at a reasonable level.

In terms of colours, the current leaked images show a White and a Rose Gold lavendar band but expect more colours when the Charge 3 is finally released.

Other than that, all the basic fitness band functions seem to be here, like heart rate monitoring, exercise/workout tracking, sleep tracking, etc. There’s also support for interchangeable bands.

Charge 3 release and price

No word on the pricing for the Fitbit Charge 3, but an unconfirmed report via a Canadian retailer suggested a price tag of 199 Canadian dollars. This works out to about $150 US dollars.

In terms of release, the current thinking is the fitness tracker will be announced at the IFA 2018, but keep checking back for more information.
