CES 2019 is only days away and here is our take on what may be coming based on all the leaked and rumours from wearable manufacturers like Garmin, Suunto, Fitbit and others in 2019.
The weeks before the CES are packed with rumours of what may or may not be launched or announced at the CES, it’s not until Sunday, January 6 and Monday, January 7 that we start to hear any big announcements.
This is the day that the media get invited to product launch events and this is when we should see a number of new fitness wearables being announced.
When is CES 2019
The 2019 International CES will begin on Tuesday, 8 January and end on Friday, 11 January in Les Vegas. This is an opportunity for media and bloggers get to see and experience hands on the new tech for 2019.
Fitbit at CES 2019
Based on recent product launches by Fitbit with the Charge 3 at the back end of 2018 and the Versa in the summer along with the lack of any credible leaks the San Francisco outfit is looking very unlikely to be launching any new hardware at CES 2019.
Whilst it would be unlikely we will see any Fitbit Hardware, we could see the Fitbit Alta 2 and Ionic 2 released, I would be betting that it is going to be software related at CES 2019 for Fitbit.
Withings at CES 2019
Back in 2016, the French company was bought by Nokia. Although just over a year later, Éric Carreel co-founder and former chairman of Withings took the company back and renamed it back to Withings.
Since then Withings has since updated its product line with the Steel HR Sport, a sportier version of its popular hybrid, we could see something new coming from them at CES.
Withings launched Move ECG, Withings Move and Withings BPM core. You can read more about the new products here
Garmin at CES 2019
Garmin is a regular attendee at CES and last year, it used the opportunity to announce the Forerunner 645 Music, a watch with built-in storage for music and Garmin Pay.
Based on a recent filing at the FCC in November it looks like Garmin is going to be releasing a new wearable at CES, here are the contenders
- A Forerunner 935 plus (or 945) is also a possibility.
- Fenix 6 is a bit of a long-shot considering and its now looking likely in 2020 due to the recently released Fenix 5 Plus.
- Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music Verizon released
- A Garmin WearOS wearable with LTE support could also be getting announced.
- New Bluetooth HR strap maybe coming, FCC link
Whilst nothing is certain until the announcement, what is certain is that something is coming from Garmin.
Suunto at CES 2019
Suunto has confirmed it will be exhibiting in Las Vegas. While there is no mention of any upcoming devices after its wearable launches in 2018, including the Suunto 9.
But five new wearable products powered by Suunto’s Movesense technology will be displayed and more details to follow on that.
So that’s a quick round-up of what to expect from wearables and fitness tech at CES 2019.
