Best Garmin watch face from Connect IQ store

Last year I wrote an article that looked at the Top 5 Fenix 5 watch faces and its been viewed a hell of a lot of times, you can check it out here. Now I have decided to write an updated version that looks at my best Garmin watch faces that I use on the Fenix 5 Plus , but these watch faces will work on many other Garmin watches like the Forerunner series.

As with the previous watch face guide, I will not just list my top 5 watch faces for the Fenix 5 Plus series, but will also give you the complete low down on how each watch face works, features and a link to Garmin Connect IQ store so you can download it.

If you want to watch a YouTube video, watch below

Whilst the Best watch faces for the Fenix 5 Plus is written with that fitness watch in mind, you can also consider them for the following Garmin watches.

    • Fenix 3, 3 HR,
  • Fenix 5x and Fenix 5s
  • Forerunner 630, 935, 645, 645m
  • Descent mk1
  • Fenix Chronos

Top tip – When choosing a watch face for your Garmin watch, try to find one with very little animation. Watch faces with little animation will not drain the battery due to not having to fire up electrodes in the screen.

Best Garmin Fenix 5 Plus watch face – ShippedGarmin Fenix 5 Plus Watch face shipped

The Garmin Fenix 5 series comes with preloaded watch faces and this is the best out of them in my opinion. I use this watch face often on the Fenix 5x Plus and its great for conserving battery life.

It’s a solid watch face with the following customisation

    • Customise dial and hands
    • Customise colours
  • 4 data fields to choose from

Speaking of the data fields and what you can show, here is the full list

    • Date
    • Steps
    • Calories burnt
    • Stairs climbed
    • Activity minutes (week)
    • Battery
    • Sunset
    • Altitude
    • Barometer
    • Calendar
  • Notifications

Whilst the Garmin Fenix 5 standard watch faces might not be the most complicated in terms of features, it does a great job at presenting the data well in a simple format and making sure it does not drain the battery to much on the Fenix 5 Plus.

Best Garmin watch face – ActifaceGarmin Fenix 5 Plus Watch face Actiface

Next up is the Garmin Fenix 5 watch face from Actiface. This watch face featured in the original Fenix 5 guide and has been downloaded over 1 million times. I have included the watch face in the 2018 version due to the developer support and it allows for lots of customisation and comes with lots of options. I personally use this one every now and again and it allows for the following customisation;

    • Change theme colour
    • An hour and minutes colour option
    • A graph with 2 data choices
    • 3 custom data fields
  • Notifications and battery

You can also customise the graph with the following options

    • Colour – Calories and HR
  • Line – Distance and Steps

You can also show the following data fields on the Actiface watch face with the Fenix 5 Plus

    • 2nd-time zone
    • Goal Percentage
    • Altitude
    • Week goal percentage

The next Garmin Fenix 5 watch faces is from NoFrills, which again featured in the 2017 Garmin watch face guide. I choose this watch face as it is a simple design and helps with the battery on the Fenix 5 Plus series. Whilst it does not have lots of customisation it does have a nice animation using the time field which fills up based on progress made against the exercise you have completed.

The following customisation is available

    • Colour options for all font
    • HR data and Battery data
    • One data display
    • Move bar
  • Notifications

You can also show the following data fields on the NoFrills watch face with the Fenix 5

The last Garmin Fenix 5 watch face is the SC9 and this has taken the place of the SC8 as my favourite Fenix 5 watch face and I use it almost every day when I am not using another one from this list. The SC8 watch face allows for massive customisation and lots of data fields.
